A subreddit for traveling backpacking and wilderness backpacking, not restricted to one or the other. A couple switchbacks down and up from Middle Falls.
Parking only upper falls which is 4 miles ahead. Saw a lot people diving to the water. Stayed in the town of Cougar and absolutely loved my first visit to the Gifford Pinchot National Forest. Lower Falls was my favorite. 18 miles of trails.
We started our day at the upper falls, hiked down to middle falls (great spot to get in the water) moved onto to the lower falls and looped back around! Upper Falls is a great place to swim or to sit and eat lunch.I love this place it’s so beautiful. Hiking Project is built by hikers like you.
So worth the beauty!
It was confusing on where the best place was to get down to the falls and we were unaware of going down a path and walking across the river to get to the falls. It was 7.8 miles from the Lower Falls CG to the middle and upper falls and back. Not very difficult at all except figuring how to get down the last part as it’s very steep.
Lower Lewis River Falls: How to get there: NEW! Loved it and can’t wait to come backWorth the drive from Seattle! Aug 2, 2018 near Morton, WA. Why do people think it’s OK to do this?
Highly recommend this hike! Lower falls, huge with huge pool for swimming, floating, jumping. The Lower Falls was breathtaking. Best Backpacking Trails in Gifford Pinchot National Forest.
Definitely recommend.Loved this hike! I couldn’t get it all but I think I made a decent dent.
Also, beware of potholes and dips if you have a car low to the ground when you are driving up to park. The 2nd trail down is easier for most since there are roots to grab.
About half of this trash I found right after the entrance to the trail head where a family, & I mean an entire family full of tiny children and elderly people, had set up a little party and was enjoying a meal when we started our hike around 4pm today. The trail from the Middle Falls access point to the Upper Falls was a lot tougher than the trail to the Lower Falls.
The good: Everything else.
Look for the parking sign since I saw many ticket vehicles on the side of the road not in spots. It fills up so try and get there early!I drove from Portland and couldn't find any parking.
Lots of pot holes that you have to be careful. Ugh... sorry y’all.. just grossed me out and ticked me right off!Campground is reservations only, day use closed. All …
Lower falls parking closed, middle parking full, had to park above the upper falls.
Rangers were in full force.
Big pools to swim in, areas to jump off into the pools, shallow areas for kids too. We did the short trail (little over a mile according to the ranger). Also the rocks are slippery, so be careful. The trail down to the waterfall isn’t marked, so just look for two paths down to the river.
The lower falls.
It is gorgeous out here and I want to come back and camp and finish the others.
