Other than the callbacks, there are no elements which speak of a one track composition. Part 7 is definitely an amazing climax to this song, such a powerful ending. I'm not really a fan of the vocals. The music itself is, as expected, amazing. It is a concept album said to be about “a group of Vikings who set out to find a fabled island west of Ireland, despite the treacherous winter drawing near.” I keep hearing bits of prog that I enjoy, nice guitar leads, solos, tremolos, catchy riffs, keyboards, piano, I never know what's coming next. I want to read the story. When i listened to it the first time that's definitely the feeling i got, i never knew what was coming next and it kept pleasantly surprising me with the different styles of each new passage. The concepts of this story, written by none other than Niilo Sevänen, the vocalist/bassist for Insomnium, are refreshingly familiar and yet original. Only this time created by Niilo Sevänen himself, of Insomnium, not Disney. I want to read the story. This is the best work i have heard from Insomnium even as a big fan of them for years. Inspired by magnificent album "Winter's Gate" by Insomnium. This LP+CD version includes the album in vinyl and cd formats, album lyrics and Winter's Gate short story with translations in English, Finnish and German, illustrated by the artist Teemu Tähkänen.
