I can't quite believe how good Teacher's is.Pretty close to JW Black. Grants is a fine blend but more money and less flavorful. There was always a bottle in my parents' larder when I was a kid, and now I understand why - it's probably the best Scotch blend you can buy, as well as being incredible value for money. I'm pleased to say, he's given up the smokes but not the Teacher's because he loves the taste of peated malt! It became a bit sharp on the tongue.
I heard mixed reviews but just bought a bottle for my birthday, ( I must admit I bought some Coke just in case it was undrinkable straight). I do even think Royal Canadian was better..Once my all time favorite. I'm enjoying this new label as much as previously. There is a sweet peaty smell and as you close your eyes you are there. Wonderfully high malt content. Subtle smoke and peat. That stuff is so sour and bitter that I cannot drink it with my usual spring water but lemonade. Hits the chest quite hard,nice and neat of course. This not an alternative, it is far for it, the smokenes is very light..
But, when Teacher's Highland Cream is concerned, I 'm left with no other choice...I poured the entire glass away, washed my sniffer, rinsed my mouth and poured myself a glass of Glenfiddich 18.Beats the crap out of Johnnie Walker Red, Bells or Dewar's with it's super malty-peaty-smokey flavor.
Smooth, easy on the start and finish, but missing a bit of Peat for me. Chivas 12yo is $50 NZ and very nice too, but teachers at 1 litre for about $36 NZ is more like it. A few rocks, a splash of San Pelligrino now and then - heaven.
None of the others have the smoothness.Worth every single penny with good flavorbeing a scotch drinker on a budget can be surprisingly easy, as I've found with Teachers.
That said, Teachers was my gateway whisky. The peat is a higher quality flavor than all the johnnie walkers in my opinion. I've found it with Teachers. all have been stunning, peaty, creamy, vanilla, very smooth. I like the peaty taste. An aroma of menthol and smoke greets you, tasting it gives a rich malt sweetness that really coats your mouth and stays after you swallow. it all couldn't taste like this ot they couldn't stay in businessOk. 5 star price. Grants Triple Wood Blended Whisky 1 Litre. Famous grouse is very poor compared to teachers highland cream side by side.
