Doheny keeps the character grounded, as frantic as he can be, so that dramatic scenes with Weinstein, and Marziale (who aren't given enough time to be more than love interests) run smoothly. Like this year’s theatrical hit Love, Simon, writer-director Craig Johnson’s Alex Strangelove, premiering on Netflix, tells a coming-out story that’s more on the gentle side. However, is it considered progress to now have our own ... lackluster ... teen comedies?Alex Strangelove ultimately serves as a funny-and occasionally filthy-commentary on heteronormativity and the work that goes into overcoming certain ingrained expectations about the trajectory of a life.Theater box office or somewhere elseTheater box office or somewhere elseThere are no approved quotes yet for this movie.
Alex Strangelove is a little stylistically unambitious, nor is it terribly compelling as a romance — who Alex ends up with is ultimately beside the point. It's hard to fault the bigger message here: that we all deserve the right to be true to who we are, even if it takes a few hard turns - and some collateral emotional damage - to get there. It disappoints, however, with unfortunate blindspots and heavy-handed messaging, ultimately resembling a misguided 21st-century PSA.The percentage of users who rated this 3.5 stars or higher. Please reference “Error Code 2121” when contacting customer service. The main thing about this movie, more than any endearingly Hughes-like traits or trailblazing representations, is that it's a bit of a mess. The percentage of Approved Tomatometer Critics who have given this movie a positive reviewThey won't be able to see your review if you only submit your rating.By opting to have your ticket verified for this movie, you are allowing us to check the email address associated with your Rotten Tomatoes account against an email address associated with a Fandango ticket purchase for the same movie. The image is an example of a ticket confirmation email that AMC sent you when you purchased your ticket.

[Madeline] Weinstein, as Claire, steals the show...We've finally started to see high school movies center around LGBTQ+ characters. “Alex Strangelove” is a movie about simply waiting for a few shoes to drop, so it works best as a poppy character study. He’s just given bad jokes, like when trying to imagine how a macho heterosexual man might present himself, which makes for cheesy, clumsy dirty talk when trying to woo Claire in and out of bed. Alex Strangelove Review Alex Strangelove attempts to be a thoughtful movie about the modern LGBTQ experience for teens. Just confirm how you got your ticket.A touching film that hits familiar John Hughes-esque territory, but delivers a raunchy, comedic and heartwarming story of self-discovery.As a modern coming-of-age movie, one that's especially meant to keep the progressive values of teen Netflix on the home page for another week or so, it does have a fair amount of charm.
Alex Strangelove ultimately serves as a funny-and occasionally filthy-commentary on heteronormativity and the work that goes into overcoming certain … In ALEX STRANGELOVE, Alex Truelove (Daniel Doheny) seems to have it all.
Except it isn't thoughtful or very modern. Doheny is able to capture that awkward performative quality of being a teenager, especially facing something as otherworldly as sex. And in spite of the story’s low stakes with Alex's two relationships, the performances are stable. "Alex Strangelove" is witty, compassionate and enjoyable throughout; a charming movie and in many respects an enlightened one.We won’t be able to verify your ticket today, but it’s great to know for the future.Your AMC Ticket Confirmation# can be found in your order confirmation email. Please enter your email address and we will email you a new password. You can always edit your review after. You're almost there! But its script feels personal, and less airbrushed than most in its recollection of the utter uncoolness of being a teenager.I pined for more scenes of Alex and Elliott's chemistry, which to the credit of [Daniel] Doheny and [Antonio] Marziale, is palpable.
As a 18 year old myself, Alex Strangelove depicts high school pretty accurately, and having made a student film similar to Alex Strangelove, complete with sex humor and absurd, surreal images, I think more people need to see it and it's great.
