When it was announced that Kodak was bringing back Ektachrome, I rallied with others and was happy with the news, of course, but I didn't think it'd do much to change my own way of shooting. Hd. I shot Kodak Ektar alongside some of the Kodak Ektachrome E100 slide film so I could compare the two films in the same condition. (And, yes, Portra is my solid standard for color neg, 160 in particular.) While pouring through images, pixel peeping each drum scan at 100%, I couldn’t help but be wowed by the sharpness I was seeing with 35mm. Not responsible for typographical or illustrative errors. With slide film, you're not really afforded the same luxuries. With Portra, I deliberately overexpose by 1/3 or 2/3 of a stop and know that I can also get away with underexposure and pushing the film if I absolutely need to.

After shooting about 6 rolls, I selected about 20 frames for drum scanning. The E100G was the best, clear whites and clear blacks. May 2009 . As expected, Ektachrome gives a very realistic and lifelike image quality with maybe a bit more "oomph," if you will—sort of like wearing prescription sunglasses. ISO100. But now that Ektachrome is available in 120, things might begin to change. The other notably impressive quality of this film is its resolution, and apparent clarity, compared to that of a negative film. 4.0 rating. Either way, it’s old stock. Kodak Ektachrome 100 - Film Review. I don’t feel like I will be using 35mm film for big landscapes, where I have to use small apertures. Funny thing is, it was going digital in post-process that moved me away from slide to negative film, largely due the much-wider latitude, but also because color-correction wass almost literally a snap: I'm surprised to know of so many people banging their heads against the wall trying to get decent color from their neg scans; dumb luck on my part? & Home App. Serv. Colors are accentuated, but not gross. That being said, I think my results could be challenged with an underexposed image with more dynamic light, but I was still impressed with the information the film stored in the shadows. Overall, I’m incredibly happy with my results from Kodak’s 35mm Ektachrome E100, and I’m extremely excited to see a company reinvesting manpower into a new transparency film stock. Versus color negative, where the film shows a reversed image that is obscured by the film's orange mask, a color transparency is, in essence, the final form of the image. View Gallery User Review. #0907905; Sec. Particularly with images with a shallow depth of field, where your subject is in focus and you have a clear out of focus area, the prints resolve amazingly at 24×36”. You can get it at Adorama. The other consequence of this being a slide film is that its exposure tolerance is much narrower than that of a negative film.
I had the various rolls for anywhere from a few days to about a week before shooting them.

These prints I’ve chosen to print at 24×36 are images that might not have as many fine details as a “big landscape” shot. Now I think it’s time to see it in 120 and large format sheets! Citrus groves, beaches, mountains at sunset, and just the general directional winter light was really ideal for working with a film like Ektachrome. I love my scans from Kodak Ektachrome E100 in 120. Perhaps on certain trips, particularly where I might be photographing more wildlife.
