So much of the prophecy analysis has been predicated on hand-waving away the differences between the books and the show that it’s often overlooked how little the HBO series actually mentioned these fateful heroes or the conditions they would need to be reborn. Following “The Long Night,” there’s been a little bit of harrumphing around the internet that the show got everyone obsessed with the Azor Ahai prophecy and debating who might fit, only to throw everything away and have Arya be the hand who swings the sword. Does it matter for the end of the series? This week on ‘The Restart,’ The Ringer’s Kevin O’Connor explains how the internet’s favorite point guard, Alex Caruso, transformed from a meme into an important part of the Lakers’ rotationWhat the COVID-19 outbreak on the Miami Marlins means for the other 29 teams in baseball The emergence of Arya as a heroic figure has been seasons in the making, and it raises the question: Is she actually Azor Ahai, a.k.a. "The Prince That Was Promised" (sometimes called "The Prince Who Was Promised" or "The One Who Was Promised") is a prophesied savior in the religion of the Lord of Light.According to the prophecy, this figure would be born "amidst salt and smoke" and pull a sword named Lightbringer from flames, which they would use to combat an impending darkness. In 2017, we considered several contenders for the title of Prince Who Was Promised, up to and including Hot Pie, and Arya wasn’t one of them (not that Redditors didn’t try). We were told of the Prince That Was Promised “his is the song of ice and fire,” and Arya could still prove that to be true.
The prince may be part of an ancient prophecy which foretells the coming of a hero to deliver the world from darkness. The prince that was promised is a prophesied leader or savior. the "Prince That Was Promised… The prophecy also never explicitly said that the Prince Who Was Promised would kill the Night's King, only lead humanity against this rising darkness. That Jon and Dany, aided by two full-grown dragons, weren't particularly effective in the Battle of Winterfell, and the defeat of the Night King was due entirely to Arya's skill (and chance), would seem to indicate neither of them is The Prince That Was Promised. After Arya killed the Night King in the third episode of season 8, some fans were convinced that, after all this time, it was actually the youngest Stark sister who was the Prince That Was Promised. However, at the end of the yesterday’s episode, it was Arya Stark who defeated the Night’s King, stabbing him with the Catspaw Valyrian dagger that kicked off the conspiracies and mistrust between the Great Houses that launched the War of the Five Kings.
